TEXANS FC 91/92 RED SELECTED FOR
NATIONAL LEAGUE

It didn't take long for Texans FC to gain some National recognition. Beginning in the Fall, the U16 91/92 Red will play in an 8 team National League. The winner of this league gets an automatic bid to Nationals. The 91/92 Red have just returned from a trip to Regionals in Oklahoma City. The team won their group and advanced to the Quarter Finals.

In addition, the 16 Red and 17 Red have qualified for Region III Premier League West. This is an honor that only two teams in each age group in the eastern half of South Texas can achieve.

PLAYER RUNS HIS WAY TO THE TOP

Not many people can say they are the best runner in their grade, and still fewer can boast about being the best in their school. And, only ten can say they are in the top ten in the Nation. As of late July, Texans FC player Dillon Worley (93-94 Red) can make that claim. Dillon plays in the back for his soccer team but certainly wasn't in the back as he ran his way into the top ten at the Junior Olympics in Los Angeles. After finishing 1st in the state in the 1500m and the 3000m, Dillon ran in the 3000m event at Nationals and finished 10th. We are proud of Dillon and his efforts.

SCORE AT THE SHORE / COLLEGE ID PROGRAM
ATTRACTS SOME OF THE BEST

The Texans FC College ID program is proving to be one of the best in Texas. In late July, teams travelled to North Carolina to participate in one of the premier college showcase events in the country. The 16 Red advanced to the finals of the White Division. Congratulations to all the teams on a strong effort. Prior to the event, the teams toured several universities including Duke, UNC - Charlotte, UNC - Greensboro, Campbell, and others. The teams played friendly matches on the college campuses against local youth teams in preparation for the showcase event.

This was only the beginning of the College ID program as 6 college coaches came to town during early August to work with the U18, U17 and U16 teams during preseason training. The week included college seminars so parents and players could learn more about the college placement process. Colleges and Universities represented were St. Louis, Kentucky, Campbell, Eckerd, Evansville, and Southwestern.

The 89/90 Texans FC Red came home from the Labor Day weekend with the first ever Texans FC championship at the Plano Labor Day Cup.  The win was a pure TEAM effort. During the first round of play, the U18 Red defeated teams from Houston, Oklahoma, and Arkansas without conceding a goal. The defense was anchored by Chris Deaville, Josh Reicks, David Flores, Zac Burns, and Cody Gibson in goal.  Edgar Montoya had a break-out game with a four goal scoring flury against Oklahoma in a 6-0 rout.

The team moved on to the quarter finals where they defeated the Tulsa Soccer Club 3-1, with scoring coming from Alex Dixon ,  Alex North,  and  Brek Shea. The midfield was led by Juan Nino and Bailey Maupin who controlled possession throughout the match. In the semi finals, the team went back and forth with the Texas Cyclones before Hugo Mondragon tied the game with a header in the 89th minute. Kevin Lara made the decisive fifth penalty in the shootout to move the team on to the Finals. Despite battling numerous injuries and little time between the semis and finals, the team came out ready to play in the championship match and Taylor Mowery scored the game winning goal in a 2-1 victory over Andromeda. Andrew O'Brien, Ethan Miller, and Jacob Downey preserved the victory with strong performances in the Final. Congratulations!

TEXANS FC PLAYERS MAKING IMPACT ON NATIONAL SCENES

Congratulations to Brek Shea (Texans FC U18 Red) for being selected to the U17 Mens World Cup team. Brek has worked very hard to acheive this goal. Many of you should remember meeting Brek when he came out to one of the training sessions to chat with a few of our players about his adventure training with the National Team. We are extremely proud of Brek's accomplishments and wish him all the best.

Former Texans FC player Mauro Fuzetti scored 2 goals for Michigan in their opening match against Rutgers last Friday. Fuzetti was a member of the Texans FC 87/88 team that attended the USYS National Cup Regionals this summer.
