More College News about freshmen Sam Robertson and Euan Holden
The Mid-Continent Soccer Conference (D1) named Sam Robertson to the All-Mid-Con Newcomer's Team after a great rookie season at Centenary College. From the news release, "Robinson finished third on the Gents in scoring this season, scoring three goals for six points from his outside midfielder position. A native of Houston, Robinson appeared in 15 contests this season, starting 14 games. He tallied one game-winning goal against Valparaiso Sept. 23." Concluding the season with a win over Texas A&M International, Centenary ended the year with a 5-11-0 record.
Euan Holden played in 15 of 19 games for the University of Connecticut Huskies. He scored one goal on the year, against Georgetown on Sept. 23. The team ended their year with an invite to the NCAA D1 Soccer Tournament, where they lost in the first round to Fairfield. The Huskies finished the season with a record of 10-7-2

Mauro Fuzetti named to Big Ten All-Freshmen Team
The Big Ten Conference named Mauro Fuzetti to the All-Big Ten Freshman team in recognition of his outstanding year at the University of Michigan. Mauro is a member of the Texans FC 87/88 Red team, is a graduate of Stratford High School.
Mauro plays with former Houston Texans player red shirt-Senior Michael O'Reilly. For the season, Michigan was 7-10-4, 1-2-3 in the Big Ten Conference. Mauro scored 2 goals with 4 assists, good for second on the team with 8 points. <Full season stats>

Update on Nathan Thornton at Clemson University
Nathan Thornton played in 13 games this year as a freshman at Clemson University, scoring 2 goals and 1 assist. One of his goals was a game winner. For the season, Clemson was 13-4-2, 3-3-2 in the powerful Atlantic Coast Conference. Clemson ended the season 6th in the ACC but was awarded a big to the NCAA tournament based on record and strength of schedule. Clemson advanced to the round of 16 in the tournament before being knocked out by UCLA, the eventual tournament runner-up. <Full season stats>

Coach Malcolm Perschke's former players end college careers
Malcolm Perschke, coach of the Texans FC 88/89 team still follows the success of his former players from the Houston Texans 84/85 Team who are finishing up their college careers.
Stuart Holden attended college at Clemson University for 1 1/2 years before a season at Sunderland in England. Stuart currently plays for the MLS Cup Champions Houston Dynamo. Stuart had one goal in 344 minutes of playing time, and scored the second PK in the MLS Cup Finals shoot-out. Stuart enjoyed a stint on the US Soccer U20 Mens National Team, playing in Korea in the summer of 2004.
Jerson Monteiro is a senior at University of Alabama - Birmingham (UAB) majoring in Political Science and has recently been named to the 1st Team All-Conference USA Team and 2nd team All-Midwest Region by the NSCAA. From the UAB website:
Monteiro Ends Career As One Of The Top Players In UAB Soccer History
All-American candidate and First-Team All-Conference USA performer Jerson Monteiro closed his illustrious career as one of the top players in school history. The Houston, Texas native will finish second on the school's all-time scoring and points list. Thanks in large part to his 14 goals and 35 points this year, both of which rank fifth on UAB's single-season lists, Monteiro finished his four-year career with 34 goals and 84 points. Additionally, Monteiro closed out his career in grand fashion, recording at least one point over his final 10 games wearing the green and gold. During that stretch, Monteiro accounted for nine goals and three assists, and collected at least one point in all but three contests this season.
UAB was 10-6-4 this year, earning an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament for the 5th time in history (first trip since 2001). UAB lost in the first round to Garner-Webb in PKs after tying in regulation 1-1 (Jerson getting the assist on the goal). Here is a wrap-up of the UAB Season. Jerson has been invited to the MLS Combine in Carson, CA the first week of January. on Jan. 12, 2007 Jerson was drafted in the 1st round of the MLS Super Draft, 8th pick overall, by the Chicago Fire.
Brad North is a senior at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL majoring in Radio, Television & Film. Brad ended his college career this fall being named to the 2nd Team NSCAA Great Lakes Region Team (3rd team during Jr. year) and 1st Team All-Big Ten Conference for his Junior and Senior years. Brad's 9 goals this year was good for being the top goal scorer for the Big Ten. During his career he scored 28 goals for Northwestern which is good for 2nd Most Goals scored in the history of Northwestern of Men's soccer. North is 3 in all-time points at Northwestern (64 pts), and First in all-time Game Winning Goals for Northwestern (10). During the year he was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the week two times, and to the National Teams of the Week of SoccerAmerica.com, CollegeSoccerNews.com and TopDrawerSoccer.com for the week of Oct 18. Northwestern earned an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament this year, second time ever and second trip in 3 years. Northwestern ended it's historic run in the Round of Eight at the University of California-Santa Barbara, in front of 8700 soccer fans, losing 3-2 and earning 8th place in the Post Season NSCAA Division I poll. <video> <Northwestern Season Stats> Brad was also profiled on a Big Ten Soccer website article. On Jan. 12, 2007, Brad was drafted in the 2nd round of the MLS Super Draft, 24th overall, by D.C. United.
Jeremy ("Jeep") Turner is a red-shirt Junior and the starting goal keeper at Midwestern State this year. Midwestern was 18-2-2 this year, going 7-1 in the Southwest Soccer Conference(Div II). Jeep allowed only 7 goals in 1232 minutes (17 games) for a 0.51 goals against average, and 35 saves. Midwestern State was invited to the NCAA post season tournament and advanced to the second round before losing 3-1 in PK's to Fort Lewis College, the defending National Champion.
Bobby Zimmer is a senior at Coastal Carolina majoring in Computer Science, and where he was a 4 year mainstay in the defense with fellow Houston Texan, Patrick Robertson. Coastal's record this year was 11-7-2, and 6-3 in the Big South Conference. Bobby played in all 20 games for the Chanticleers this year.

Two players with Texans FC connections selected in MLS draft
1/12/07: Jerson Monteiro and Brad North, both Houston area HS graduates, were selected in today's MLS Super Draft. Both Jerson and Brad were trained by Lee Baker and coached by Malcolm Perschke on the Texans 84/85 Red team. Jerson was selected in the first round, 8th overall by the Chicago Fire; Brad was selected 24th overall (2nd round) by DC United. Stuart Holden, current Dynamo player, was also on the 84/85 team.
4/15/07- Both Brad and Jerson have signed contracts with their respective MLS teams.

Former Texans 84/85 Player is MLS Champion
The Texans FC organization extends their congratulations to the Houston Dynamo for winning the MLS Cup today in Frisco, Texas. Many Texans FC were in the stands as the Dynamo defeated the New England Revolution in penalty kicks, 4-3 after ending two overtime periods tied 1-1.
